Internet Explorer 6 no longer supported by Amazon

As of the end of March 2010, we will no longer develop Seller Account pages to be compliant with Internet Explorer 6.

I didn’t see that coming.

It makes more sense when you consider Amazon’s exposure to financial attacks against their sellers. I’d expect eBay, PayPal & the rest of the usual high-profile targets to follow suit fairly quickly at least for sellers, business accounts, etc.

Yet another nail in the coffin, and this time, it’s a pretty big one. Even some of our clients at work who have been very reluctant to let go of IE6 have recently gone to IE8 and Firefox. Are we finally winning? I think so.

This says just “Seller Account Pages”, not the main site.  So really it’s “IE6 no longer supported by parts of Amazon”, so don’t get too carried away. Of course it’s just a matter of time before it’s a bit more widespread - I look forward to that day!

IE6 is like an abusive lover. It just beats your guts and still you can’t quit it.

You = Me.

However, I feel like we have all been in therapy for a while over this. It was kind of a joke like 3 years back and now it is like a plague.

Every good business should ditch the home-wrecker and set an example. Demand better web.

“IE6 is like an abusive lover. It just beats your guts and still you can’t quit it.”

Well, except that its not a lover. At least I’ve never loved it and its never loved me, thankfully.

Still - good news though :)

But you have felt its penetration, right? ;-)
