Aussie Rules

A little over a week ago, but what seems like much, much, longer, my wife and I made the long trip from home to Australia to host three Visual Web Design Masterclasses in partnership with our good friends at Web Directions. It proved to be quite a week.

This is my third trip to Australia in the last four years and every time I come I think that it is going to be my last — another one of those once in a lifetime trips to the far end of the world. So you might imagine how excited I was to get another invitation, this time to give three workshops, first in Melbourne (a city I've never been to), then onto Australia's capital Canberra and finishing the week in Sydney.

It was certainly a hectic schedule, but with a little extra time between workshops and some careful planning and excellent organization on the part of John Allsopp and Maxine Sherrin, we made the three cities with time to spare and even found time to hang out with our friends.

Feedback and emails from people who honored me by attending have been kind, even from Canberra where I had expected that my expounding the virtues of comic books for design inspiration (among other things) might have been a tough sell to the largely government employed attendees. Needless to say that I learned a great deal from talking to everyone who attended and I'm left with a huge sense of pride, and not a little humility, that over ninety people would give up their time to spend the day with me.

I hope that this won't be the last time that I get to visit Australia.

Aussie rules.
