Joli Originals laptop sleeve
When I arrived at Beyond Tellerrand in Berlin this week, conference organiser Marc had a nice surprise waiting for me, a new Joli Originals laptop sleeve for my Macbook Pro with Retina Display.
I’ve been a big fan of Hard Graft products over the years. I have one of their sleeves for my laptop already, one for my iPad and I’ve bought several of their phone cases as mine have been lost (two) or stolen (one.) I’ve talked a lot about Hard Graft products and they’re always talking points when I get them out of my bag, yet somehow Hard Graft’s tastes and mine have diverged in recent years and while they’ve always been expensive, somehow now they feel like less value.
Joli Originals are a small company from Amsterdam and they also make wallets and sleeves for Apple products using Italian leather and felt. They’re just two people making and selling products themselves. I think that it’s important to support small businesses and it helps that they’re also very likeable people.
I think that the feeling of holding a laptop sleeve is more important than its looks. The €109.00 smooth, brown MacBook sleeve that’s now wrapped around my Mac feels fantastic and its also as beautiful a sleeve as you’ll ever hold. Marc chose the brown leather for me and I’m glad he did. There’s a smokey grey option too, but the brown looks more luxurious. The felt lining comes in several colours too. Mine’s aqua, but brown and pink linings are also available.
I like the simple, unfussy design. My laptop feels snug inside it and the soft felt is going to keep it safe too. The leather is soft and marks fairly easily, but I’m sure this sleeve will only look better with time.
I liked the sleeve so much that I looked at the Joli Originals website to see what else they made. I didn’t know that they were here at the conference selling their other products and when I found out, I immediately picked up a matching €59.00 smooth case. I’m fussy like that, I like things to match.
I’m not intending to buy a new iPhone this year, and I expect to get three of four years more from my Macbook Pro, so buying a new case or sleeve is a great way for me to feel like things are new again. The Joli Originals items are perfect for that.
