Retina size screen grabs without a retina Mac

Making screenshots for the some portfolio panels for my new site design — It’s out on Wednesday kids — I came across a problem. I couldn’t get screenshots sharp enough for a retina display because I’m snapping on a plain ol’ Macbook Air.

Damn.

After I grumbled on Twitter, Ryan Townsend shot me back a reply (not embedded:)

Malarkey Can’t you enable HiDPI mode on your Mac anyway? If you’ve got a big enough monitor, it should render everything double size.

Then.

Malarkey see this for instructions: gist.github.com/3191869.

Genius. Thanks Ryan

So simple even I could get it working. (And you know what I’m like with that damn Terminal.)
