Blogging and All that Malarkey Stuff & Nonsense

Malarkey is Andy Clarke, a creative designer with a passion for accessibility and web standards. This is his personal website.

Announcing @media2006

The ticket price is a steal. It would be a crime to miss it.

Today I heard a rumour that there's gonna be something big happening in London this summer. When I say big, I mean big and pulled off by some of the biggest names in the business. We're packing latest hardware and if it all goes to plan, no one will get hurt and the rewards will be incredible. @media2006, the ticket price is a steal. It would be a crime to miss it.

It's been a real pleasure to be asked back to present again and to be closing the show. This year I'll be presenting some brand new content.

Andy Clarke is a designer who sees web pages wherever he goes. From paintings on the walls of Tate Modern to posters on the walls of tube stations. He sees web pages everywhere, leaping out from the pages of magazines and newspapers, record covers, political posters. It might be that Andy just needs to remember to take his medication, but he finds inspiration for innovative designs in the most unlikely of places.

In his presentation, Andy will take you for a ride around his world, showing how he gains inspiration for layouts and designs which break with the boxey conventions which are sometimes associated with web standards and how we can use advanced CSS to implement them in progressive and accessible ways.

@media2005 was one of the highlights of last year. I hope to see you there for @media2006

If I go - this has to come out of my own pocket, so....'the ticket price is a steal'...hmmm - I'm not so sure about that. But I agree it is the event of the year to attend.
I couldn't make it to last year's event as I only knew about it quite late in the day - but I'm more prepared this time and hope to really be there.

The question is: Do I go to this or SXSW? (I doubt I can afford to go to both).....*ouch*

I'll be there. Wanted to go last year, but at the time I was a meer student (not cat) so affording the "steal" price wasn't affordable.

I wouldn't say it was a steal, but hell the line up is great, a chance to meet some of the best designers in the standards-based industry.

Malarkey will have to put up with me again. I'm not stalking, honest.

SXSW would be nice, a trip to America too, perfect. Shame I won't be able to afford it this year. Maybe in a year or three! Now, Web Essentials, Australia, even better... who wants to fund me to go?

am pushing work as we speak to get me a ticket!

I am also rather proud that the comments I made about last years event seem to be popping up in their random way - there certainly was a nice lot of free beer!

I'd sign up immediately... if I wasn't going to be sitting my finals at the same time, and it wasn't going to cost me half my student loan to get in! :(

The price is not a steal, it's a robbery. But maybe I rob a bank to come to London this time. It would be great to talk to you and the like. [The price gets worse when I remember the hotel-prices in good-ol' London. Add the flight and it will be a slaughter for my bank-account :-) ]

Quite an impressive line-up really. I wonder though how can that great number of expert speakers be squeezed in 2 days?

The event needs to be more than two days if the talk each one is to give is thorough and detailed.

The speaker list appears to be little bit overcrowded for a two-day event.

The event is indeed unmissable for the world I hasten to add. What a line-up!!!

It may be a steal to some, but certainly not to me I'm afraid. :/

The line-up looks great, and that there @media 2006 site is smashing, 'tis. Of course, I'd like to be able to attend.

    So, to quote the site:

    £395 + VAT

VAT being 17.5% (I believe, and payable only by UK-taxable attendees), the actual cost is £464.13. Can anyone confirm this?

Hmm, if this is so, then £395 + VAT seems a bit unnecessarily obfuscatory (for penny-pinchers like me, at least ;) ).

Andy, are you a football fan?

Cos if my research tells me correctly, your first presentation on the 15th runs alongside of the England vs Trinidad & Tobago kickoff!
