Meet Micky, the world’s cleverest chimpanzee (pic)
Remember “MICKY,” the world’s cleverest CHIMPANZEE?
Of course you do. Well now, thanks to renowned Liverpool historian Ken Pye, I’ve finally seen a photograph of Micky:
Micky’s story was far from a happy one. Chained, shot while escaping, then stuffed and finally cremated in a firebombing during WW2. I doubt you could come up with a sadder or more bizarre story.
It’s great to put a (stuffed) face to a name, but there’s still more I want to find out about Micky:
- Where was he before Liverpool Zoological Park?
- Was he caught in the wild or bred in captivity?
If you, or anyone you know have memories or information on Micky, please let me know.
I imagine that records for that defunct zoo are pretty hard to get hold of, but here’s hoping. Maybe Ken can help with that too? In the meantime I’m going to track down more pictures of Micky.
