Reuven Herman. Composer

The story of how I helped Los Angeles based arranger and composer Reuven Herman promote his work with a website design connected with his jazz roots.

Living and working in Los Angeles, Reuven Herman is a film and visual media composer, conductor, and orchestrator. He’s composed music for major films and video games, including Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars. He’s collaborated with composers and my music has been featured in numerous hit television series. He also serves as President of the Academy of Scoring Arts.

Ambient animations

I wanted to reflect Reuven’s musicality in the graphics I made for his website design, so I created a series of ambient animations with subtle movements. Each animation includes piano keys and lids—Reuven’s chosen instrument—organic flowing shapes, and extracts from his musical scores.

A jazz-inspired visual language

Designing for other creatives often involves blending elements from their interests with my impression of aspects of their work. For Reuven, I stylised piano keys and lids, used musical notes from his compositions, and arranged them in semi-abstract arrangements with exaggerated perspective.

I developed a monochromatic colour palette cut through with a vibrant orange accent. His new logo is playful, featuring a logomark and icon crafted from musical elements and piano parts that spell out his name and initials.
