Begoña Pereda. Composer

The story of how I helped a young Mexican composer, Begoña Pereda, promote her work with a website design connected her love of retro musical technology.

Living and working in Mexico City, Begoña Pereda is a composer for films and video games. She’s an up-and-coming young artist who collaborates with filmmakers and makes music that supports video gameplay and narratives. She also composes music for branded content and commercials. Bego came to me on the recommendation of another composer client.

I love working with other creatives, and I’m especially keen on helping artists who are early in their careers. Like many of my creative clients, Bego was interested in a design which reflects her interests, personality, and the experience of working with her.

Integrating audio with retro tech-inspired images

Bego loves retro musical technology, including cassettes and reel-to-reel tapes. Instead of simply presenting her music in a gallery, I created a bespoke reel-to-reel tape graphic and added animations that play alongside it.

For Bego’s portfolio, I also designed a branded cassette tape which plays her music and makes the listening experience more engaging.

Retro-inspired colours and playful typography

A large part of my design process involves searching for typefaces with a voice which tells the story a client wants to tell. While a typeface like Fido, designed by Canada Type, might not ordinarily be considered appropriate for a professional’s website, its playfulness perfectly matches the music Bego creates for her clients.

Andy exceeded my expectations. My website is now a true representation of who I am and what I do, while also being a fun and engaging space to explore.
