Mike Worth: Giving a composer a website as distinctive as his music
The story of how I helped composer Mike Worth celebrate his love of 1990s animation through a website filled with original illustrations, playful storytelling, and plenty of hidden surprises.

Mike Worth creates retro-style music for game developers who want their games to feel like action-packed cartoons from the ‘90s. Mike also has an irrepressible love of classic animation.
His previous website showcased his work, but very little of Mike’s personality came through. Mike wanted a desogn that reflects his passion for ’90s animation, inspired by Disney’s DuckTales. My challenge was to create a website where visitors understand Mike before they hear a note.
The solution
Mike briefed me to design a website with a ’90s animation vibe. Instead of just decorating Mike’s portfolio with cartoon graphics, I created an adventure story that visitors uncover as they explor his website. I developed a new character—the orangutan adventurer and archaeologist Orango Jones—and wrote and illustrated a storyline that takes Mike’s hero to Borneo on a quest for the emerald flute.
Every illustration, animation, and interaction became part of Mike’s character’s story, rewarding visitors exploring his website. I filled Mike’s website with lightweight animations to delight and surprise his audience. Despite its richness, Mike’s website remains lightweight and responsive.

What this project demonstrates
The best creative websites showcase someone’s work and introduce the person behind it. Every creative professional has influences which make them unlike anyone else. My job is to uncover those qualities and express them through design, creating websites that people could not imagine belonging to anyone else.
