A premium Eleventy starter kit for designers and developers who want to spend less time setting up the same project structure and more time designing distinctive websites.
At Stuff & Nonsense, Eleventy has been our platform of choice for the past several years. Eleventy in a Box is the starter kit we built, including the pages, templates, styles, configuration, and optional feature packs we need to get almost every project started. It’s built for Eleventy 3.x and ready to deploy to Netlify.
Eleventy in a Box isn’t a finished theme. That’s the point. It gives you the structure, patterns, and configuration you need, then gets out of your way. You can change the design, rewrite the content, add your own components, remove sections you don’t need, and shape the codebase around your project.
These websites all started with Eleventy in a Box, but they don’t look anything alike. Eleventy in a Box gives you a foundation, not a fixed visual style.
Eleventy in a Box gives you a clean, practical foundation for building static websites with Eleventy. It includes pre-built pages, reusable templates, sensible configuration, modern CSS, Netlify deployment settings, CMS-ready content structures, and optional feature packs for common website sections. Eleventy in a Box ships with the core pages and templates most projects need before adding custom content.

Eleventy in a Box includes optional feature packs for common website sections. Each pack contains its own templates, content, styles, and configuration files. The included installer copies each pack into your project, along with the folders, Markdown files, stylesheets, and templates it requires. Feature packs include:

Designed to give you a strong technical foundation without unnecessary complexity. Templates use semantic structure, giving you a clean starting point for accessible pages and components.
Stylesheets are clean, structured, and easy to understand. Colours and fonts can be configured from critical.css, and the system includes automatic dark mode preference and colour theme support. The layout system is flexible and practical, with no CSS framework required.
Eleventy in a Box keeps things light. It uses minimal vanilla JavaScript, includes no jQuery, and doesn’t enable analytics, cookies, or tracking by default. There are no dependencies beyond what the project needs to run.
Sensible defaults for titles and metadata. Use automatically generated data, then override metadata on individual pages when you need more control. Simple configuration for Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Plausible Analytics, and Umami Analytics.
