More than 100 artworks from the famous Charles Saatchi’s collection have been destroyed in a warehouse fire. Among the many pieces of contemporary artists’ work destroyed were works by Tim Noble and Sue Webster, who I had the pleasure of knowing at art school in Nottingham.

Works by some of my favourite artists Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin also perished in the fire in east London.

   Real shame, and I feel gutted for Momart, who are renowned as the best art keepers in our kingdom. Saatchi’s got his critics, and I’ve often been one, but he often bought wisely, knew what would excite, confuse and attract people. I wrote more "Is It Art?" essays at college in response to his purchases than I could ever count. Hope none of his Fiona Rae paintings were lost. They’re my faves…

   Maybe he’ll visit Nottingham Trent degree show this week to find some replacements (yeah, right Collison).
