I work with clients across the UK and beyond from my studio in North Wales. Some come to me because they’ve seen my books, talks, or articles. Some because they want an experienced independent designer rather than an agency. Some because they know their website needs more personality, clarity, and purpose.
Whatever the reason, the work usually starts in the same place. Your website should make people understand why you matter.

A website is often the first serious impression someone gets of your organisation. That impression might make them trust you, remember you, contact you, buy from you, recommend you, or keep looking somewhere else. That’s why I don’t treat web design as decoration.
Good design helps people make sense of you. It shapes what they notice, what they understand, and what they feel. It gives your organisation a voice before anyone has spoken to you.
If your website looks and sounds like everyone else’s, you’re making people work too hard to see why you’re different. I can help fix that.
Working with an independent designer isn’t right for every project. If you need a large production team, round-the-clock support, or a pile of agency departments, I’m probably not your person. But if you want experienced thinking, direct conversation, and design that doesn’t get watered down by committee, working with me can be a better fit.
You talk to the person doing the work. Decisions are clearer. The process is lighter. The ideas stay sharper. I’ve spent decades designing for the web, writing about design, and teaching other designers how to think more creatively about layout, content, and user experience. That experience shows up in the work.
I design websites with strong visual direction, clear structure, and content that helps people understand what makes you worth choosing. That might mean a new website for a business, a redesigned site for a charity, a campaign site for an organisation, a portfolio for a specialist, or a more expressive home for a brand that has outgrown its current site.
If your existing website feels dated, generic, bloated, or unclear, I can help you rethink it from the ground up. A redesign should do more than make a website look newer. It should make the whole experience stronger: the message, structure, design, performance, and the path someone takes from interest to enquiry.
I design interfaces and digital products as well as websites. That includes product pages, dashboards, tools, design systems, onboarding flows, customer journeys, and other parts of the experience where clarity and usability matter.
I don’t separate design from content. The words, hierarchy, page structure, calls to action, and visual rhythm all shape how a website works. If your existing content sounds generic, I’ll help sharpen it. If your structure is confusing, I’ll help simplify it. If your offer is buried, I’ll help bring it to the surface.
A good website shouldn’t stand still for years after launch. I can help keep it useful with new case studies, clearer service pages, better project stories, email design, and regular improvements. Sometimes the launch is only the start of the work.
Every project is different, but the shape is usually simple. First, we talk. I want to understand your organisation, your audience, your offer, and what isn’t working about your current website.
Then we shape the message. That might mean defining the site structure, rewriting key sections, identifying stronger proof points, or working out what the website needs to say before we worry about how it looks.
Then I design. Not by filling a template, but by finding a visual direction that fits the job. The aim is to make something distinctive without making it difficult to use.
Then I build. I prefer fast, flexible, low-maintenance websites with fewer moving parts. For many projects, that means Eleventy and Netlify rather than WordPress. Then we launch, learn, and improve.
Templates are quick, but they make you fit someone else’s idea of what a website should be. Agencies can be useful, but many projects don’t need layers of people, meetings, and process. I sit somewhere else.
You get senior design thinking without the agency machinery. You get custom work without unnecessary complexity. You get a website shaped around your organisation rather than forced into a familiar pattern. That’s especially useful when your work is specialist, your story is unusual, or your current website doesn’t reflect the quality of what you do.
I work with organisations across the UK, including businesses, charities, cultural organisations, professional services, product teams, specialist manufacturers, consultants, and creative people. The common thread isn’t sector. It’s attitude.
My best clients care about the details. They want their website to feel specific. They’re willing to think properly about what they do and why it matters. They don’t want to disappear into a sea of sameness. If that sounds like you, we’ll probably get on.
I’m based in North Wales, but most of my work happens remotely. That’s normal now, and it works well. We can talk over video, share ideas in documents, review designs together, and move steadily from rough thinking to finished website without needing to sit around the same table.
That means you can work with me whether you’re in London, Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, Leeds, Liverpool, Birmingham, Glasgow, or somewhere quieter. What matters isn’t distance. It’s whether I’m the right designer for the job.
The web is full of people who can make pages. That’s not the same as knowing what a website should be. Experience helps me see where a message is weak, where a layout is trying too hard, where content is hiding the point, where a project is becoming more complicated than it needs to be, and where design can do more work. It also helps me say no to things that won’t help. That might be the most valuable part of working with someone experienced. You don’t just get another pair of hands. You get judgement.
If you’re looking for a UK web designer and want something more distinctive than the usual agency website, let’s have a conversation. You don’t need a perfect brief. You don’t need to know exactly what the finished website should be. You just need to know it should be better than what you have now.

No. I’m based in North Wales and work with local clients, but I also work with organisations across the UK and internationally.
Most projects depend on the amount of design, content, and build work involved. A simple project may be smaller; a more ambitious website with original design, content strategy, and custom development will need a bigger budget. The best place to start is a conversation.
I usually don’t. I prefer lighter, faster, simpler systems that are easier to maintain. For many clients, that means a static site built with Eleventy and hosted on Netlify.
Yes. Website content needs to be written and structured differently from brochure copy. I can help shape your message, write or edit page copy, and organise content so people understand it quickly.
I don’t sell SEO packages in the usual sense. But I do design websites with clear structure, useful content, fast performance, accessibility, and search visibility in mind.
